Development of the 2021 avalanche safety range
REQUEST
Arva is a partner who trusts us in the design of their avalanche rescue equipment. This is why they asked us to rework their Excavator / Probe range. For excavators, we were asked to develop 2 types of handles, a first, traditional in 'T', and a second, in 'Y', allowing use in pickax mode.On the probes, our work was as much on the graphic aspect, by developing the markings and graduations, as on the functional aspect, with the development of the probe tension system but also a new design for the tip.
METHOD
On this kind of request, the workshop in co-creation with the client is found to be the most useful, it allows us to explore a maximum of ideas in a short time and thus end the session with a specific direction for the future. This phase allows us to quickly switch to 3D, and thus quickly prototype at each stage for validation.
RESULTS
We particularly appreciate working on several products from the same range in order to achieve optimal consistency between all the elements. In addition, we were able to work in conjunction with the UIAA to rigorously meet current standards for avalanche safety equipment.

Renewed ergonomics
This new hollow design brings lightness but without hindering the mechanical characteristics of the product. With each iteration, we prototyped using our 3D printer, to optimize ergonomics throughout the design. The asymmetric “AXIS” configuration allows it to be used as a pickaxe and digging very quickly.
PROBES
NEW TENSION SYSTEM, FOR MORE SIMPLICITY
From a start-up workshop for the exchange of ideas and in order to properly focus the project, to discussions with the industrialist to obtain the best finished product. In addition to the tension system, this probe brings a new graphic design, readable at 2 levels with on one side wide graduations every 10cm and on the other a precise marking to the centimeter, but also a new point, where the narrow primary angle allows it to easily penetrate the snow, but whose soft end is not likely to injure the buried victim.
shovel BUCKET
ROBUSTNESS AND LIGHTNESS
This new bucket has been developed in 3 different sizes: PRO, GUARD and ULTRA, in order to adapt to both rescuers and competitors, and therefore stick to the constraints of each practitioner. focused on weight, mainly on the ULTRA model, but above all on compliance with the recent UIAA standard.
