DESIGN OF THE NEW GHOST MTB RANGE

 

 
 

  • REQUEST

Our team has been working since 2018 with Ghost, a German brand located in Bavaria. We were contacted at a key moment for the brand, which wanted to renew a large part of its product offering. Our vocation on this collaboration was also to strengthen the identity and homogeneity of the brand through the coherence of the design of the cycle range, by working on the fully suspended platforms e RIOT and the cross country platform LECTOR FS.

  •  METHOD

The Kairn and Ghost teams have a great common passion: mountain biking. This greatly facilitated the exchanges! Their philosophy, very focused on the pleasure of riding, the durability of the products, and the desire not to be like the others, immediately won us over.

The first challenge for Kairn was to fully understand the specific needs of each project. For this, several physical meetings took place and made it possible to consolidate the workflow between the teams. By relying on our resources in industrial design, but also on our expert partners in digital design, FEM simulation and mechanical engineering, Ghost and Kairn have already developed several MTB platforms, both muscular and electric, in a logic of mutualization. parts or “Design to cost” approach. One of the innovations of the Waldsassen brand is in particular the ADAM concept, making it possible to generate bicycle geometries perfectly adapted to all body types.

  • RESULTS

The fruits of this close collaboration were recently unveiled, with the Riot Carbon, Riot AL and Lector FS platforms. There is no doubt that the very high demands of the Ghost R&D team will be noticeable on product quality. We are already very proud of the work accomplished together.

The E RIOT platform, available in aluminum and carbon, shares kinematics, geometry and plastic components. The whole challenge for R&D and design was to integrate this platform logic with common parts into the design of the frames. The ventilation of the engine, the easy maintenance of the bike with a change of cable ducts without tools, or the lowering of the center of gravity, are all elements that have guided the design of this platform.

The Lector FS is a mountain bike intended for the practice of cross country in Olympic format (XCO). Our mission was to design a carbon frame offering the best possible weight / stiffness ratio, while considering a lowering of the center of gravity to maximize its ease of piloting. We therefore adopted the design codes developed on the e Riot platform and the lines and the unique surface treatment already established on the e Riot. Particular attention has been paid to the routing of the cables, the integration of the shock absorber, the chain noise on the chainstays, as well as the integration of the 8pin telescopic seatpost.
